In psalms 119, David teaches believers in Jesus Christ how to remain faithful to God.
165 Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
According to 119:165, we must Love [God's] Laws. If we do, we will not stumble or give in to sin.
But how? How do we love God's Laws?
97 Oh, how I love your law!
I meditate on it all day long.
102 I have not departed from your laws,
for you yourself have taught me.
104 I gain understanding from your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path.
According to David, [a man after [God's] own heart] we must do the following things in order to love God's laws:
1. We must be taught the law of God by God so that we may gain understanding about that law. Understanding the law answers the questions, "Why exactly is it a law?" and "How does it helps us as believers."
120 My flesh trembles in fear of you;
I stand in awe of your laws.
David stood in AWE of God's laws because he understood them. We too must stand in AWE of God's laws. If we are yet to stand in awe of God's laws, it means that we have not yet fully understood His laws.
2. We must meditate upon the Lord's Laws so that it sinks into our hearts.
27 Let me understand the teaching of your precepts;
then I will meditate on your wonders.
After David gained understanding of God's laws, he chooses to meditate on God's wonders. We too must do the same.
3. We must make prayer and praise to God a daily habit. Meditating on God's word both night and day and anytime inbetween.
164 Seven times a day I praise you
for your righteous laws.
David was a very busy King and yet he took the time to pause his duties as King and praise the Lord our God seven times each day.
We must strive to do what David did for the Lord called him a man after His own heart. We too can be after the Lord's own heart. I will begin a 10 part series of blogs explaining each of the 10 commandments the way the Lord has explained them to me so that you too may gain understanding of these laws and eventually start LOVING the laws of God!
