Reflect upon these things. .

Wednesday, December 9

. . .The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. . .[2 tim 2:6]

in context:
Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer. Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.  [2 tim 2:3-7 NIV]

This is what I thought it meant.

SOLDIER:

Discipline – Crucial when overcoming sin

Focus – Not being distracted by ungodly things.

Sacrifice – Your life, family, friends, money, comforts of life.

ATHLETE:

Trained – Doing the Will of God consistently takes practice

Regulated – Must know the Word of God in order to abide by the rules and commands

Reward – You MUST cross the finishing line in order to receive your reward, or else all your work would be in vain. Continue to do the Lord’s Will till the return of Jesus Christ or your death.

FARMER:

Plough – Prepare the land to be planted. Getting involved in the Godly community. Finding a need to address.

Seasons – There will be seasons of fruitfulness, but also seasons of storms. You must be able to endure and give thanks in all seasons.

Sow – Must sow the seeds of the Word of God whenever the opportunity arises. Continue to do this till the return of Jesus Christ or your death.

As Christians, we must be like the soldier, the athlete and the farmer. Training, doing and persevering till the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
